ANNOUNCEMENT:
QPU Stands with Coalition for TJ
9/22/2023 - Queens Parents United has proudly joined fellow education advocates at CACAGNY, PLACE NYC, & NYRA in submitting an amicus brief in support of the Coalition for TJ's petition to the Supreme Court. Similar discrimination tactics in the TJ case have been employed in NYC under the guise of diversity plans, attempts to eliminate the SHSAT, lotteries for middle/high school admissions, elimination of objective measures for G&T admission, elimination of middle school screened programs, etc.
It is our hope that the Supreme Court takes up this case and clarify what exactly should be a fair baseline for school admissions.
Read the amicus brief here.
Welcome!
QPU is a coalition of parents, families, and other community stakeholders committed to pursuing quality education and excellence in our public school system in all neighborhood schools.
About Us
QPU is a coalition of parents, families, and other community stakeholders committed to pursuing excellence in our public school system for all by improving schools within each local community.
We are united in our opposition to government imposed quotas as a substitute for quality in all public schools, forced busing/transit plans for children, and de-zoning and changes in zoning priorities in elementary and middle schools. We oppose the use of mandated “diversity plans” as a quick-fix for lack of school funding, and believe they serve as a distraction from the critical need to improve under-performing schools and build new schools in overcrowded areas. We should have quality education and programs of excellence in all our schools.
It takes a community to raise a child, and that begins at home and with our local schools. We should be investing in our communities to make that happen, not undercutting them with unproven, untested, politicized approaches.
